A headline summary of key parts of your HR policies relevant to health and wellbeing at work is included below along with details of where to get more information.

Managing attendance - what OH can’t do

It’s important that managers and employees understand there are some things that OH cannot do, for reasons of ethics, professional conduct, or appropriateness. These include:

  • Managing sick absence or performance for managers
  • Telling managers what to do
  • Making a diagnosis of a medical condition
  • Disclosing medical information that isn’t relevant
  • Predicting sick absence or how much absence should be tolerated
  • Acting without the informed consent of the patient

The OH role in supporting the management of attendance at work is to perform an objective and impartial assessment of the reasons for absence, encourage employees to return to work when able to do so, and support managers in making good decisions and taking effective action when required.
